The fall fishery off Nanaimo has continued to produce some excellent catches as off lately. In our October Nanaimo fishing charters report, we'll go over some notable catches and what can be expected for salmon fishing this time of year. The fall fishery off Nanaimo is usually comprised of Coho salmon and winter runs of Chinook Salmon. We are mainly seeing nice sized coho salmon and the odd winter spring that are more often on the smaller sized than legal sized. The bait has been further out in the deeper water off Five Finger Island and that is usually where we are finding the maturing coho salmon. The summer runs of chinook salmon are now either staging or have started their trip up river to spawn. The weather has continued to be spectacular so we will continue to run charters until November.
