Well the coho fishing off Nanaimo has been some of the best I have ever witnessed. With chinook being catch and release until July 15, we have been mainly targeting coho. Hatchery coho are open for retention of 2 per license holder and with a good mix of hatchery and wilds, we have been able to catch limits of coho on a lot of trips. These strong fighting fish are a blast on the rods, with lots of double headers and some controlled chaos. This action unfortunately won’t last forever but we sure hope it will continue for a while or until chinook open in July. We have also been catching some beautiful chinook salmon as well including one that was weighed in our catch and release net at 24lb before being safely released.
