May Nanaimo Fishing Charters Report And Upcoming Coho Opening June 1st

With May coming to a close, we look forward to June 1st when Coho Salmon will officially open for retention in the waters off Nanaimo. During May we've had lots of Nanaimo fishing charters where we've done just catch and release chinook and coho fishing. Both have been great but the numbers of coho around already are exceptional! Lots of our trips so far have been almost non stop coho action with numerous double headers(2 fish on at once). The size of the coho right now are also bigger than this time in previous years so we may see some record sizes by late summer and fall as these fish eat non stop for months before returning to their river system. Come June 1st Coho will open for retention of 2 hatchery marked fish per licence per day. Non marked or "wild" coho must be released. We are extremely excited about the coho opening as it is a great sign for the upcoming season and gives us a chance to bring some fish on board for our guests.
