Lights out fishing is the best way to describe the chinook fishing on our latest Nanaimo fishing charters. Even though chinook is currently catch and release only, the non stop action with fish into the low teens, multiple double headers and strong fighting springs make for some of the best salmon fishing of the season. These early timed Fraser river runs should be passing through for the next few weeks before the summer runs start to show. Our latest Nanaimo fishing charter had over 10 double headers, 25 fish to the boat and at least 10 that were lost, all in a 4 hour trip. Crabbing has continued to be productive with some nice sized keepers in each pot. May 1st brings the opening of lingcod which open for 1 per person with a minimum size of 65cm. June 1st coho are expected to open as well.
