The big fish are here in Nanaimo! The last week sure has brought a change to the fishing in Nanaimo. Our last few fishing charters in Nanaimo have brought in some good sized Chinook salmon. More runs have come into the area as well so the fishing has picked up considerably over the last week. The wind has been a huge problem up until the last few days, causing us to cancel a number of fishing charters. Our last trip out we hooked into some nice sized fish, loosing the biggest one due to a snapped 40lb leader, about 8ft from the boat, just out of netting distance. Was most likely 25lbs or over. We did end up getting a 18lb spring towards the end of the day which was a bit of redemption for the lost big one. Put another one about 10lbs in the box and lost about 5-6 other good sized fish 8-15lbs. Every one of these springs put up a great fight taking lots of line and going on long runs. Also had a nice double header with one undersized and another one that got away. Tons of smaller springs were caught and released and the pacific cod are still in the area causing a bit of a problem. The fish are also getting shallower, with the most popular depths being 120-140ft, although our biggest fish were caught at just over 100ft. The hot lures right now are the kitchen sink coyote with moonjelly flasher and gibbs g force trap shack spoon. We hope the windy days are over with so we can get back to fishing! We do still have some openings for bookings in June if you want to get into these springs before they move on, even if it's last minute. Don't hesitate to contact us to get out on a great Nanaimo fishing charter!
Make it an Unreel Day!
