Winter Fishing in Victoria

Victoria:

Salmon fishing has been good off Victoria lately. The weather has been very poor lately so there haven't been many anglers out. The fish have been caught in many areas around the waterfront and off Esquimalt. They are following the bait so this is when a good fish finder really helps! Most of the salmon that have been caught are in the 3-6lb range with the odd one up around 10lbs. Bait, spoons and squirts were the choice for hook ups. Purple Haze and Bloody Nose have been the most popular colours for teaser heads. Plastic baits that have been working well are the Electric Chair, White Glow and Purple Haze. AP Needlefish, Coho Killers, G Force and Coyote spoons in Moon glow, glow white and green have produced as well. Flashers with some glow are doing well, as well as the Purple Onion, Lemon Lime and Bon Chovy.

Halibut: Halibut fishing is closed right now for January.

Oak Bay:

Fishing off Oak Bay has been decent on the flats, with winter springs caught close to the bottom with coho killers and needlefish spoons.

Sidney:

Salmon fishing in Sidney has been fairly slow as of lately, but a few decent fish have been caught. Most anglers are using anchovies in glow teaser heads and coho killers with some glow.

Pedder Bay:

Fishing has been decent out of pedder bay, with alot of the fish caught in the 3-6lb range. Most fish have been caught close to the bottom in 125-150 feet of water inside the bay. There is lots of bait around inside the bay that the salmon are feeding on, so finding the bait balls and staying on them are key to success. Small glow spoons, glow coho killers and anchovies in glow teaser heads are all working well.

Best of luck out there!
